Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health seeks an experienced Professional Coding Provider Educator to join our HIM - Professional team. This primarily remote role reviews provider documentation, translates audits into practical education, and partners with clinical and executive teams across a large multispecialty system.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of professional coding experience, CPC certification, and strong PowerPoint and analytic skills.

Qualifications

• Five years of recent professional fee coding experience with provider documentation reviews or audits.
• Advanced expertise in at least one clinical specialty; cardiology or orthopedics preferred.
• Ability to translate audit findings into practical education for clinicians and executives.
• Experience in large multispecialty medical groups or academic medical centers.

Responsibilities

• Conduct risk-based, opportunity-driven, specialty-specific professional coding audits.
• Evaluate CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, modifiers, E/M, and medical necessity.
• Research and apply CPT, CMS, NCCI guidance current to service date.
• Synthesize findings into concise reports, executive summaries, tip sheets, and PowerPoint presentations.
• Deliver education to physicians and advanced practice professionals based on audit findings.
• Analyze high volumes of provider questions; identify core issues and provide guidance.
• Maintain specialty expertise and support additional specialties as needed.

Education

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience

Active AAPC Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credential

CPC-I strongly preferred

CPMA strongly preferred within 6 months
