Job summary

Advocate Health seeks a skilled coding education leader to advance clinician documentation and coding accuracy. You will deliver proactive education, lead onboarding and compliance training for physicians and APPs, and review records for feedback, escalating non-coding issues as needed.

Qualifications

• 4 years of expert-level professional coding experience.
• RHIA/RHIT/CCS/CCS-P or CPC certification required.
• Advanced ICD/CPT/HCPCS coding knowledge and compliance.
• Epic and reporting tools proficiency.
• Strong communication and training abilities.

Responsibilities

• Deliver proactive coding education through newsletters, scorecards, and presentations focused on CPT, ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, and payer requirements.
• Lead onboarding and compliance training for all physicians and APPs, ensuring accurate documentation from day one.
• Provide individualized documentation feedback by reviewing records and spot checks, escalate issues as needed.
• Serve as primary coding inquiries contact, coordinating with teams to resolve complex issues like NCCI and high-complexity edits.
• Monitor Epic work queues to ensure timely charge submissions and reduce denials.
• Collaborate across CMOs, Clinical Informatics, Risk Adjustment, and Population Health to improve documentation practices.
• Participate in specialty meetings, identify trends, and deliver targeted education to improve accuracy.
• Refine Epic templates, orders, and SmartSets to improve efficiency and accuracy.
• Ensure compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, and AHIMA standards, keeping up with evolving policies.
• Promote ethical coding and continuous improvement, supporting clinicians with timely updates.
