Job summary

Aurora Health Care seeks a senior coding educator to lead proactive education for clinicians on CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS. You will onboarding and ensure documentation accuracy from day one, reviewing clinician records, and guiding teams through complex issues such as NCCI and high-complexity edits.

Qualifications

• Advanced coding knowledge across ICD, CPT, HCPCS ensuring compliant coding.
• Strong medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology understanding.
• Epic and reporting tool proficiency to analyze data and improve workflows.
• Critical thinking and analytical skills with attention to detail.
• Excellent verbal and written communication to educate physicians and teams.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and electronic coding systems.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Deliver proactive coding education through newsletters, scorecards, and presentations, covering CPT (E&M, modifiers), ICD-10-CM, HCPCS, Risk Adjustment, payer requirements, and rejection resolutions.
• Lead onboarding and compliance training for Physicians/APPs, Locum Tenens, residents, and students, ensuring documentation accuracy from the start.
• Provide individualized documentation feedback by reviewing new clinician records and conducting spot checks.
• Serve as the primary contact for coding inquiries, coordinating with internal teams to resolve complex issues.
• Monitor Epic work queues to ensure timely and accurate submissions and reduce claim denials.
• Collaborate across CMOs, Clinical Informatics, Risk Adjustment, and Population Health to enhance practices and system optimization.
• Participate in specialty meetings, identifying trends and delivering targeted education.
• Refine Epic documentation tools to improve efficiency and accuracy.
• Ensure compliance with Medicare, Medicaid, and AHIMA standards and evolving policies.
• Promote ethical coding culture and continuous improvement with timely updates and education.
