Qualifications

• Requires an Associate's degree in health information technology/management or related field; Bachelor's preferred.
• Minimum of three years of continuous coding experience in a facility with a comparable patient population.
• Active certification such as RHIT, CCS, RHIA, or CPC.

Responsibilities

• Review and correct provider coding for completeness and accuracy, ensuring compliance with VHA HIM Practice Brief standards
• Abstract and code medical, surgical, and administrative data from medical records while maintaining a coding accuracy of 95% or greater
• Query providers for clarification on ambiguous information and ensure all queries are resolved within 30 days of discharge or service
