Qualifications

• Certification in medical coding (CCS) and ongoing competency in coding principles.
• Experience with inpatient and outpatient coding and auditing.
• Knowledge of ICD-9-CM, CPT-4 and E/M coding guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Review and analyze discharged medical records for coding accuracy and data abstraction.
• Assign ICD-9-CM, CPT-4, and E/M codes and determine DRG/APC assignments.
• Identify questionable diagnoses or sequencing and refer to physicians for clarification.
• Maintain productivity and accuracy per coding standards and guidelines.
• Communicate with Patient Accounts and department managers on coding issues.
