Job summary

Speechify is seeking a Software Engineer for Platform in Virginia Beach, VA to own core backend APIs for payments, subscriptions, auth, and consumption tracking, serving millions of users across web and mobile.

You will design, build, and maintain scalable systems and collaborate with product, mobile, and web teams to stay ahead of product direction. We value automation, reliability, and clear tradeoffs.

Qualifications

• Proven backend experience in TS/Node.
• Direct experience with GCP; AWS/Azure or another cloud is a plus.
• A habit of giving away work you used to own and documenting it for the team.
• Experience with Docker and containerized deployments is preferred.
• Experience deploying high-availability apps on Kubernetes is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and own the APIs behind payments, subscriptions, auth, consumption tracking, and our public TTS API.
• Take on services you didn't write and make them faster, cheaper, and harder to break.
• Establish correctness checks before shipping and maintain them afterwards.
• Automate repetitive tasks to free up time for higher-impact work.
• Turn one-off work into repeatable practices for the team.
• Design B2B and enterprise integrations for customers building on Speechify.
• Collaborate with product, mobile, and web teams to keep backend architecture ahead of product needs.
