Job summary

Speechify in Charleston, SC, USA is seeking a Software Engineer, Platform to own the backend powering our payments, subscriptions, auth, and analytics across iOS, Android, Mac, Chrome, and Web. You’ll design APIs, improve reliability, and scale systems for millions of users.

You’ll work with product teams to keep infrastructure ahead of product needs, automate repetitive tasks, and ship high-quality code in a fast, asynchronous environment that values clarity and impact.

Qualifications

• Proven backend experience in TS/Node (required).
• Direct experience with GCP; working knowledge of AWS/Azure.
• A habit of giving away work you used to own and something to show for it.
• A daily working setup with AI agents you can describe in detail — what runs unattended, what you review, and where you've decided it doesn't get to act alone.
• The instinct to check a result against the systems—logs, database state, the actual request.
• Judgment about what not to build, and ability to explain why you dropped it.
• Preference for Docker and containerized deployments; Kubernetes HA is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and own the APIs behind payments, subscriptions, auth, consumption tracking, and our public TTS API.
• Take on services you didn't write and make them faster, cheaper, and harder to break.
• Automate repetitive parts of your role and enable the team to repeat work.
• Turn one-off work into repeatable processes for the team.
• Design B2B and enterprise integrations built on top of Speechify.
• Collaborate with product, mobile, and web teams to keep backend architecture ahead of the product.
