Job summary

Cisco Systems, Inc. is seeking a Software Engineer for the Splunk Platform Authorization team. You will build and maintain backend services powering secure, scalable access across enterprise environments, applying RBAC/ABAC concepts and cloud-native practices.

You will work with Go, contribute to C++ heritage, and join a collaborative engineering group tackling distributed systems and service-to-service communication. Location: remote with a strong preference for certain US locations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field with 5+ years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree with 3+ years of equivalent experience; or a PhD in a related field or equivalent experience.
• Professional software development experience building and maintaining backend services using Go.
• Experience developing, troubleshooting, and maintaining backend applications or services in complex production environments.
• Experience developing and maintaining software code, participating in code reviews, and contributing to software development projects within an engineering team.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend services using Go, supporting scalable authorization and service-to-service communication across Splunk's platform.
• Translate technical designs into high-quality, maintainable code, independently driving implementation while collaborating through design discussions and code reviews.
• Investigate and resolve production issues, improve system performance and reliability, and address technical debt within complex backend systems.
• Contribute to the modernization of established C++ services and the evolution of distributed infrastructure, including Kubernetes-based environments.
• Collaborate with engineering teams, share technical knowledge, and participate in operational support and on-call rotations following onboarding.
