Job summary

Symetra is seeking an AVP and Actuary to drive the strategy, performance, and growth of our stop loss captive and reinsurance business. You will lead actuarial initiatives across pricing, underwriting, finance, and executive leadership to evaluate opportunities and deliver insights that support profitable growth.

This highly visible role requires complex problem solving, strong analytics, and industry relationships to influence strategy and partner with internal teams and external brokers on

Responsibilities

• Lead actuarial oversight of captive and reinsurance initiatives, with performance monitoring and strategic recommendations.
• Evaluate captive arrangements and reinsurance treaties to support growth and profitability.
• Collaborate with underwriting to assess and price captive opportunities.
• Develop models and analytics to measure captive performance for informed decisions.
• Provide expertise on reinsurance risk, captive structures, and financial implications.
• Coordinate with leaders, brokers, and consultants on captive opportunities and RFPs.
• Monitor results, identify KPIs, and report recommendations to senior leadership.
• Represent Symetra at industry events and track market trends.
