Job summary

Symetra seeks an AVP and Actuary to drive the strategy, performance, and growth of our stop loss captive and reinsurance business. You will lead actuarial oversight, partner across Pricing, Underwriting, Finance, and executive leadership, and develop models to support profitable growth.

In this highly visible role, you will evaluate captive arrangements, price opportunities, and provide insights on financial implications.

Responsibilities

• Lead actuarial oversight of captives and reinsurance initiatives, including performance monitoring, reporting, and strategic recommendations.
• Evaluate and analyze captive arrangements and reinsurance treaties to support growth and profitability objectives.
• Partner with underwriting teams to assess and price captive opportunities.
• Develop tools, models, and analytics to measure captive performance and support informed business decisions.
• Provide expertise on reinsurance risk, captive structures, and financial implications.
• Collaborate with internal leaders and external partners, brokers, and consultants on captive opportunities and RFPs.
• Monitor financial results, identify key performance drivers, and communicate recommendations to senior leadership.
• Represent Symetra at industry events and maintain awareness of market trends and emerging opportunities.
