Job summary

Distro is seeking an Engineering Manager / Tech Lead to own the end‑to‑end AI processing pipeline and AWS infrastructure while leading a small team of engineers. The role is hands‑on and requires writing code across the stack, not just reviews.

You'll work with Laravel on the backend, React on the frontend, and manage cost and compliance while shaping product direction. Remote position with a chance to influence a high‑scale AI-driven platform.

Qualifications

• 5+ years building and running production systems as a full‑stack engineer in Laravel and React
• Strong PHP/Laravel or equivalent experience in a modern backend framework with willingness to use Laravel
• Hands‑on AWS ownership including ECS, Aurora/RDS, monitoring, incident response, and cost optimization
• Experience with asynchronous job processing: queues, workers, retries, idempotency, dead-letter handling
• Production experience with the OpenAI API: completions, structured outputs, vector stores, token-cost control
• Fluent in AI‑assisted development and ability to raise team capabilities
• Experience leading or mentoring engineers, formally or informally
• Professional working English

Responsibilities

• Own the AI processing pipeline end‑to‑end across multiple stages
• Handle full‑stack feature work using Laravel on the backend and React on the frontend
• Take ownership of AWS infrastructure end‑to‑end (ECS, Aurora, S3) and control costs
• Ensure SOC 2 Type 2 compliance through evidence collection and audits
• Lead a small team of two engineers, setting direction and removing blockers
• Provide product input and participate in architectural decisions
