Job summary

BenchPrep is seeking a Staff/Senior Accountant for its remote accounting team. You will maintain financial records, prepare reports, analyze data, and ensure GAAP compliance.

You'll contribute to budgeting, audits, and process improvements while supporting strategic decisions across the organization. The role requires a strong background in accounting, with 3–5 years (Staff) or 5–8 years (Senior) experience, CPA preferred, and excellent communication and Excel skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting; CPA preferred.
• 3-5 years (Staff Accountant), or 5-8 (Sr Accountant) years in accounting or auditing; public accounting experience preferred.
• Strong verbal/written communication skills.
• Ability to work well independently and in a team environment.
• Thorough knowledge of financial statement preparation, GAAP, and revenue recognition.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel.

Responsibilities

• Manage accounting function including account reconciliations, journal entries, AR, AP, and Billing.
• Analyze and review expenditures, allocating expenses by department and reporting to departments as necessary.
• Review transactions for GAAP compliance and company policies.
• Analyze billing transactions to ensure proper revenue recognition.
• Post monthly, quarterly, and yearly accruals in the general ledger.
• Assist in building financial statements and budget variance analysis.
• Assist in design and preparation of budgets for management review.
• Prepare year-end schedules for tax returns.
• Look for ways to improve accounting processes and procedures.
