Job summary

FirstEnergy Corp in Ohio is seeking a Planning & Protection Engineer to ensure reliability of the distribution system. This onsite role reports to the Ohio Edison base in Akron, with potential assignments at other OH service centers, and focuses on analysis, long-range infrastructure planning, and modernization initiatives.

The ideal candidate holds an ABET‑accredited BS in engineering, a PE license or advanced degree, and FE exam credit; you will work across teams, analyze data, prepare

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited BS in Engineering or Engineering Technology required.
• PE license is required; advanced engineering degree preferred.
• FE exam completion is a plus.
• Experience with electrical systems, operations, maintenance, switching and tagging.
• Knowledge of NESC and NEC codes.
• Ability to analyze data, write technical reports and develop work packages.
• Willing to travel and work extra/irregular hours.

Responsibilities

• Assess reliability of Ohio distribution systems and improve performance.
• Develop and maintain long-range plans for reliability and modernization.
• Oversee infrastructure improvement plans (LTIIP) and budget planning.
• Support Operations through data analysis, outage projects and field logs.
• Prepare reliability and regulatory reports and present findings.
• Collaborate across functional boundaries and provide technical support.
• Respond to customer inquiries and assist with power quality studies.
• Support storm process as needed and manage special projects.
