Job summary

FirstEnergy Corp is seeking a Transmission Planning Engineer to study and plan the reliable operation of transmission and subtransmission systems in FE’s planning areas. The role coordinates with operating companies, utilities, and regional bodies to develop the capital portfolio for reliability projects.

Candidates should hold an ABET-accredited BS in Electrical Engineering, with 2+ years of engineering experience. Preference for PE license or FE certificate.

Qualifications

• BS in Electrical Engineering from ABET-accredited institution.
• PE license or ABET-accredited Engineering Technology degree with advanced EE degree.
• FE Certificate preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of engineering experience.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical studies to develop transmission and subtransmission projects and budgets.
• Perform studies to ensure compliance with NERC, PJM and FE planning criteria.
• Propose economically justifiable mitigation projects for planning deficiencies.
• Assist in capital budget development and presentations for the portfolio.
• Support Operations Centers during severe weather, heavy loading, or abnormal events.
• Travel as required within the FE system for project work.
• Prepare responses to state and federal commission requests for information.
• Provide technical testimony for regulatory and legal inquiries as needed.
• Prepare submittals for compliance with planning activities.
