Job summary

Duke Energy seeks Relay Construction and Maintenance Interns to learn how protective relays, controls, and SCADA support grid reliability. You’ll work with Journeymen and Apprentices to build fundamental skills in relaying and protection systems.

Ideal candidates are enrolled in a 2-year Engineering Technology program with a 2.75+ GPA, 18+ years old, and a valid license. Onsite work at company facilities with safety training and potential relocation assistance may apply.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a two-year Engineering Technology program or related major.
  • GPA at least 2.75 required; must not graduate before August 2027.
  • Valid driver’s license required; program may involve relocation within footprint.

Responsibilities

  • Develops understanding of relaying fundamentals, protective schemes, controls and SCADA.
  • Gains basic isolation procedure writing and print reading skills.
  • Learns to use RTS, NERC compliance concepts and data accuracy.
  • Develops basic troubleshooting and methodical task planning skills.
  • Under supervision, works with Journeymen to gain field exposure in relays and protection systems.
