Job summary

Duke Energy is offering a Relay Technician Intern position focused on learning the fundamentals of relaying, protective schemes, controls, alarms, and SCADA interfaces. Interns will shadow Journeymen and Apprentices to build hands-on skills in a supportive, safety-conscious environment.

Requirements include enrollment in a two-year Engineering Technology program, a minimum 2.75 GPA, and availability to commence no earlier than August 2027.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a two year degree in Engineering Technology or related major.
• GPA criteria: 2.75+
• Must not graduate prior to August 2027.
• Valid driver's license required.

Responsibilities

• Develops understanding of relaying fundamentals, protective schemes, controls, alarms, distribution SCADA, communications.
• Develops basic isolation procedure writing.
• Develops understanding of how to utilize print reading, red mark process.
• Develops understanding of RTS and its use.
• Develops understanding of NERC compliance and importance for accurate data and timely completion.
• Develops basic troubleshooting skills.
• Develops methodical thinking and logical activity sequencing.
• Develops understanding of CT and VT circuits.
