Job summary

Duke Energy is seeking Relay Technician Interns to learn alongside Journeymen and Apprentices. You will gain exposure to relaying fundamentals, protective schemes, controls, alarms, and SCADA, while developing essential safety-focused work behaviors.

The internship emphasizes understanding NERC compliance, print reading, and basic troubleshooting, with opportunities to work at company facilities and develop hands-on skills in electrical utilities.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a two-year Engineering Technology degree or related major.
• Must be at least 18 years old before start date.
• Cumulative GPA of at least 2.75; cannot graduate before August 2027.
• Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Develop fundamentals of relaying, protective schemes, controls, alarms, and SCADA.
• Learn basic isolation procedures and print reading processes.
• Understand RTS usage and NERC compliance implications.
• Develop basic troubleshooting skills and methodical task planning.
• Gain familiarity with CT and VT circuit concepts.
