Job summary

Duke Energy is seeking Relay Technician Interns to gain hands-on experience in relay protection, controls, alarms, and SCADA within our Transmission Engineering footprint in North Carolina and South Carolina.

You will work with Journeymen and Apprentices, learn to read prints, apply safety practices, and develop basic troubleshooting, CT/VT understanding, and NERC awareness while supporting day-to-day reliability of the grid.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a two-year degree in Engineering Technology or related major.
• Cumulative GPA of at least 2.75; must not graduate before August 2027.
• Valid driver's license and willingness to work onsite at Duke Energy facilities.

Responsibilities

• Develops understanding of relaying fundamentals and protective schemes.
• Learns to read prints and use print reading in wiring and layouts.
• Gains exposure to RTS, CT/VT circuits, and CT readings.
• Supports compliance with NERC, data accuracy, and timely completion.
• Develops basic troubleshooting and methodical work planning.
