Job summary

Duke Energy invites applications for a Relay Technician Intern position. Interns will collaborate with Journeymen and Apprentice Relay Technicians to gain exposure to relaying fundamentals, protective schemes, controls, alarms, SCADA, communications, and safety practices.

The program targets students pursuing an Engineering Technology degree and emphasizes NERC compliance and practical troubleshooting. Eligible candidates must be enrolled in a two-year program, be at least 18, have a 2.75 GPA,

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a two-year Engineering Technology degree.
  • Minimum age 18 before start date.
  • GPA of at least 2.75.
  • Must not graduate before August 2027.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Develops understanding of the fundamentals of relaying, protective schemes, controls, alarms, distribution SCADA, and communications.
  • Develops basic isolation procedure writing.
  • Develops understanding of how to utilize print reading and the red mark process.
  • Develops understanding of RTS and its use.
  • Develops understanding of NERC compliance and its importance for accurate data and timely completion.
  • Develops basic troubleshooting skills.
  • Develops the ability to think methodically and arrange activities in logical order.
  • Develops basic understanding of CT and VT circuits.
