Job summary

Sweetwater Care is seeking a qualified Respiratory Therapist to independently perform respiratory care procedures, interpret physician orders, assess resident needs, deliver prescribed therapy and evaluate resident response in the home care setting.

The role functions as consultant, educator and clinician to clinical staff, with responsibilities including ventilator management, airway support, and collaboration with nursing leadership to integrate respiratory care into daily practice.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• Must be a Registered Respiratory Therapist in the practicing state.
• Ventilator unit experience required; long-term care or skilled nursing preferred.
• Effective communication to maintain positive relationships with residents, families, staff and agencies.
• Knowledge of local, state and federal guidelines and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Promotes healing of acutely ill residents through respiratory care and education.
• Administers intermittent/continuous therapy, mechanical ventilation and airway management.
• Sets up and uses respiratory therapy equipment, gases, humidification and medications.
• Follows rehab department management including case management, quality improvement and care planning.
• Manages reimbursement, billing, and records related to respiratory care.
• Collaborates with nursing leadership to integrate respiratory care into daily practice and trains staff.
• Assesses and evaluates respiratory therapy care and life support for residents.
• Coordinates equipment orders and ensures appropriate devices meet resident needs.
• Communicates changes in resident condition to physicians and nursing staff; adjusts care plans.
• Develops discharge plans for residents and tracks follow-up on equipment.
• Assesses developmental needs across age groups and adapts care accordingly.
• Provision of general medical equipment and supplies as ordered.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
