Job Summary and Qualifications

The Respiratory Therapist coordinates and delivers high-quality, patient-centered respiratory care in accordance with the department's specific requirements and standards of practice. As a vital part of the patient care team, the Respiratory Therapist performs diagnostic tests, therapeutic procedures, and monitors patients receiving invasive and noninvasive mechanical ventilation.

What you will do in this role:
  • Perform and document patient assessments, including breath sounds, airway patency, and cuff pressure. Conduct diagnostic procedures to evaluate the need for, and response to, respiratory therapy.
  • Administer respiratory care therapies, including oxygen delivery, aerosol medication delivery, and chest physiotherapy.
  • Assist with placement of artificial airways. Initiate, monitor, and maintain mechanical ventilation.
  • Monitor patient responses to therapy and notify providers of any issues, intervening as appropriate.
  • Assist with the transportation of ventilator-dependent patients.
  • Respond to emergent patient situations, ensuring airway integrity and adequate ventilation during resuscitation.
Qualifications needed:
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date.
  • State Registered Respiratory Therapist certification.
  • Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy or related field.
