Job summary

Mercy Hospital St. Louis is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join the ICU Stepdown team on a part-time schedule (24 hours per week), with day and night shifts.

This role focuses on providing high-quality care to intermediate-acuity patients transitioning from critical care to Med/Surg level, using evidence-based practices and collaboration with the care team. Qualified applicants will have ADN/ Diploma or BSN, Missouri RN license (or compact), BLS required; ACLS/NIHSS/PCCN preferred.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (ADN, Diploma, or BSN).
• BSN preferred.
• Missouri RN license or compact license required.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality care for intermediate-acuity patients transitioning from critical care to Med/Surg level.
• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care using evidence-based practices.
• Perform accurate hand-offs and bedside shift reporting to maintain patient safety.
• Collaborate with physicians, advanced practitioners, and multidisciplinary partners to optimize patient outcomes.
• Administer medications, monitor complex conditions (cardiac, respiratory, post-ICU), and support recovery.
• Participate in huddles, shared governance activities, and unit-based quality improvement initiatives.

Certifications

• Required: BLS (American Heart Association).
• Preferred: ACLS, NIHSS, PCCN, or other Stepdown-related certifications.
