Job summary

Ascension is hiring a PACU RN for a day shift at Northwest Hills Surgical Hospital in Austin, TX. The role involves direct nursing care for high-acuity post-operative patients, adhering to standards and aseptic techniques, and ensuring safe transitions in a high-volume surgical environment.

The position requires a nursing diploma or Texas RN licensure, and certification in BLS/ALS with preference for PACU/ICU/ER experience. Competitive benefits are offered.

Qualifications

• Texas RN license required or active licensure at time of hire.
• Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing or equivalent professional licensure at time of hire.
• BLS Provider or ACLS/ALS certification required within specified timeframes from hire.
• 1+ year of PACU/ICU or ER RN experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert direct nursing care for high-acuity post-operative patients.
• Assess physiological responses to anesthesia and surgery and anticipate needs/complications.
• Implement aggressive pain management and stabilization during recovery.
• Advocate for patient safety in a Level 1 surgical setting and facilitate safe transitions.

How you’ll make an impact in this role

• Provide expert, direct nursing care for high-acuity patients in the immediate post-operative period, maintaining strict adherence to AORN/ASPAN standards and aseptic techniques.
• Evaluate physiological responses to anesthesia and surgical interventions, utilizing clinical expertise to anticipate case-specific needs and potential complications based on complex pathophysiology.
• Implement aggressive, individualized pain management strategies and therapeutic interventions to stabilize patients during the most vulnerable phase of surgical recovery.
• Function as a vigilant advocate in a Level 1 setting, continuously assessing patient stability to ensure safe transitions and optimal outcomes in a high-volume surgical environment.

What Minimum Requirements You’ll Need

Licensure / Certification / Registration

• Registered Nurse credentialed from the Texas Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
• One or more of the following:
  • Advanced Life Support obtained within 6 Months (180 days) of hire date or job transfer date. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
  • BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.

Education

• Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing required. OR Required professional licensure at time of hire.

• 1 plus years of PACU, ICU and or ER RN experience.
