How this role drives the company forward:

The Regional Sales Manager (RSM) is responsible for managing the sales team in a defined region of North America. Responsibilities include hiring, training, motivating and coordinating all sales activity within the region to meet or exceed all sales goals. The RSM drives development and sales success across all members of the regional team. Incumbent should possess accountability, a sense of urgency, and a strong desire to succeed.

The Regional Sales Manager role may be remote-based within the Bay Area.

Approximately 70% travel, including overnight, is required.

How you will make an impact:

The successful candidate will lead a team of Sales Account Managers in the West region. The RSM drives success of the regional team through regular field travel with the sales staff and weekly 1:1 meetings, constantly assessing the performance of sales personnel and coaching toward strong technical and selling skills. The RSM will provide regular feedback to senior management on revenue results and the drivers of success. The RSM will collaborate closely with marketing as a voice for the sales team, providing insight on the market message, new product applications and competitive activity. The RSM acts daily as the catalyst to inspire the sales team, develop world-class salespeople, and support the organization to commercial success.

What will you do:

  • Plans, develops, implements, and analyzes results of sales strategies and tactics to achieve regional revenue objectives. Is responsible for achieving sales budget.
  • Responsible for hiring, coaching and motivating sales representatives.
  • Identifies areas of improvement for each employee, develops action plan for improvement and monitors sales representative development.
  • Monitor daily and weekly activities of sales representatives.
  • Works with Senior Management to develop department and regional goals and strategies.
  • Coaches sales representatives to develop strategies and tactics for account and territory growth.
  • Provides pertinent market and competitive information to the organization.
  • Provides timely communication and follow-up to customers ensuring for complete customer satisfaction and that customer needs are met directly and through employees.
  • Collaborates with sales representatives on presentations, product demonstrations, and on-site customer visits.
  • Analyzes and reports out to senior management on department performance through KPIs and other reporting mechanisms.
  • Establishes a high level of partnership and alignment with other departments (Product Marketing, Customer Service, Corporate Development) to ensure coordination of activities and understanding of common goals.
  • This position has supervisory responsibilities.


How will you get here?

  • B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in a life science.
  • 3+ years of sales management experience at a life sciences company or equivalent leadership experience or 5+ years’ experience in direct sales at a life sciences company.
  • Academic training and bench experience in molecular biology, cell biology or equivalent.
  • In-depth knowledge of generally accepted sales principles and practices required.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and leadership skills required.
  • Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills required.
  • Effective organization and planning skills required.
  • Must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record, valid driving license, and automobile insurance at all times.
  • Proficient in related personal computer software, e.g., MS Office Suite, Salesforce CRM.

Additional Information about the role:

The US base salary range for this full-time position, expected to be located in Bay Area, is $160,000 - $180,000 USD. This range may be modified at any time at our sole discretion.
