Job summary

Merck & Co., Inc. seeks a Regional Medical Scientific Director to lead scientific exchange, research initiatives, and congress support within the Gastrointestinal Immunology program.

The Detroit-based role covers NATIONAL territory with remote flexibility and travel requirements. Requirements include a PhD/MD/DO/DNP and at least 3 years in the therapeutic area, plus strong stakeholder engagement and regulatory knowledge.

Qualifications

• PhD, PharmD, DNP, DO, or MD.
• 3+ years of therapeutic area experience beyond degree.
• Ability to conduct doctoral-level discussions with external stakeholders.
• Knowledge of FDA, OIG, HIPAA and related guidelines.
• Strong stakeholder management, communication and networking skills.
• Ability to organize and adapt in a dynamic environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and virtual meetings.
• Commitment to inclusive culture.

Responsibilities

• Develops relationships with national/regional Scientific Leaders to provide approved medical information.
• Conducts peer-to-peer scientific discussions and maintains a medical contact within the company.
• Directs SL inquiries on issues outside scope to appropriate resources.
• Maintains current knowledge of AOI in the therapeutic area.
• Initiates discussions with SLs/investigators for research alignment.
• Enhances understanding of investigator-sponsored research goals.
• Recommends study sites and investigators for phase II–IV programs; leads SIVs.
• Addresses investigator questions about participation in Company-sponsored studies.
• Engages in scientific congresses and facilitates data exchange.
• Gathers feedback to inform medical needs and priorities.
