Job summary

Merck & Co. is seeking a Regional Medical Scientific Director (PhD/MD-level) to engage in bidirectional scientific exchange with national and regional Scientific Leaders.

The role focuses on Gastrointestinal Immunology, supporting approved and in-development trials across MI, IN, KY, with travel in the territory. You will lead scientific discussions, support investigator-initiated studies, and serve as a role model for field medical teams while upholding FDA/GCP guidelines and inclusive

Qualifications

• PhD/MD-level credential with relevant therapeutic area experience.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant therapeutic area experience beyond degree.
• Ability to conduct doctoral-level discussions with external stakeholders.
• Strong focus on scientific education and dialogue.
• Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and networking.
• Knowledge of FDA, OIG, HIPAA, and related guidelines.
• Organizational skills to prioritize in a changing environment.
• Proficiency with Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, OneNote.
• Familiarity with virtual meeting platforms.
• Commitment to inclusion and accountability within the team.
• Adherence to field and corporate SOPs, GCP, and related responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Develops professional relationships with national/regional Scientific Leaders.
• Conduces peer-to-peer scientific discussions and maintains medical contact within the company.
• Addresses scientific questions and directs inquiries to appropriate resources.
• Keeps current knowledge of clinical and scientific environments within AOI.
• Initiates discussions with SLs/investigators on alignment with research strategies.
• Enhances understanding of investigator-sponsored research goals.
• Identifies barriers to patient enrollment and retention in studies.
• Recommends study sites and investigators for phase II-IV programs; conducts SIVs.
• Leads protocol discussions in collaboration with Global Clinical Trial Operations.
• Addresses investigators' questions about participation in studies.
• Engages in scientific congresses and medical meetings for data exchange.
• Gathers feedback to inform medical needs and priorities.
• Contributes to inclusive culture and workforce empowerment.
