Job summary

Merck & Co., Inc. in Detroit, MI is seeking a Regional Medical Scientific Director to serve as a therapeutic expert and exchange scientific information with Scientific Leaders.

You will support GI Immunology programs and liaise between the scientific community and Merck to advance approved and in-development trials. The role requires a PhD/MD-equivalent and 3+ years in the therapeutic area, with strong stakeholder engagement, ethics knowledge, and proficiency in Office tools.

Qualifications

• PhD, PharmD, DNP, DO, or MD required.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant therapeutic area experience beyond the terminal degree.
• Ability to conduct doctoral-level discussions with external stakeholders.
• Strong focus on scientific education and dialogue with stakeholders.
• Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and networking skills.
• Knowledge of FDA, OIG, HIPAA and related compliance in pharma.
• Ability to organize and adapt in a dynamic environment.
• Proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, OneNote, and related tools.
• Familiarity with virtual meeting platforms.
• Commitment to inclusive culture and global inclusion strategy.

Responsibilities

• Develops professional relationships with national and regional Scientific Leaders to share approved medical information.
• Conducts peer-to-peer scientific discussions and maintains medical contact with SLs.
• Addresses scientific questions beyond RMD scope and directs inquiries to appropriate resources.
• Maintains current knowledge of dynamic scientific environment within AOI for the therapeutic area.
• Leads discussion with SLs and investigators to align with research strategies and study concepts.
• Supports investigator-sponsored research concepts and patient enrollment strategies.
• Recommends study sites and investigators for phase II‑IV programs and conducts Site Initiation Visits.
• Collaborates on protocol leadership with Global Clinical Trial Operations.
• Engages in scientific congresses and data exchange at meetings.
• Gathers feedback to inform company medical needs and priorities.
• Promotes inclusive environment and role modeling for diversity.
