Job summary

CDM Smith seeks a Senior Substation Protection & Control Engineer to provide technical leadership within our Power and Energy practice. You will lead, mentor, and grow a team, serving as the technical authority for protection and control systems and overseeing complex substation projects.

The role emphasizes client service, project delivery, and business growth, with responsibilities spanning studies, relaying, SCADA integration, and coordination across disciplines. Travel may be required.

Qualifications

• PE license and 15+ years of related experience required.
• Strong expertise in high‑voltage substation protection and control systems.
• Experience leading regional/multi‑office engineering teams and business development.
• Willingness to travel as needed (10% or less).

Responsibilities

• Lead design, delivery, and technical execution of HV substation P&C projects.
• Serve as technical authority for protective relaying, control systems, SCADA integration.
• Develop and review protection/documentation deliverables (schematics, wiring diagrams, relay settings).
• Lead power system studies, protection coordination, and equipment selection.
• Ensure compliance with client requirements and CDM Smith quality procedures.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams for delivery, commissioning, and startup.
• Drive engineering standards and continuous improvement.
