Job summary

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center is seeking a PRN Cytogenetic Technologist (Part Time) in Lubbock to prepare, examine, and analyze chromosomes from specimens to aid in diagnosis of genetic diseases. Responsibilities include image analysis, karyogram generation, FISH, and ISCN-based reporting.

The role requires a Bachelor's degree in Biology or related field and at least one year of lab experience; preferred candidates have 2 years in a clinical setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Biology, Microbiology or related field; one year of laboratory experience.
• 2 years of related experience in a clinical setting (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Perform chromosome analysis using Leica Cytovision software including image analysis and karyograms.
• Perform FISH and fluorescence microscopy with Cytosure software and documentation.
• Review test requisitions and summarize results using ISCN nomenclature.
• Distinguish normal vs abnormal test results and document patient records.

Position Description

Prepares, examines, and analyzes chromosomes found in biologicalspecimens such as amniotic fluids, bone marrow, and blood, to aidin diagnosis and treatment of genetic diseases. Will also performadvanced technical duties in the diagnostic study of cells for thepurpose of recognition and classification. Assists in the trainingof subordinate personnel. Prepares and interprets reports, records,forms and other correspondence.

Major/Essential Functions

• Chromosome: Perform analysis of chromosomes using LeicaCytovision software, which includes image analysis and Karyogramsfor each case on the imaging system and analyzes them for thepresence of chromosomal defects.
• FISH: Perform fluorescent microscopy, capturing using LeicaCytovision software, paperwork, flex images, Excel entries forcut-out arrays: Perform analysis using Cytosure software. Databaseand literature search.
• Review results in Review test requisitions to gather pertinentdetails for analysis.
• Summarize test results utilizing ISCN nomenclature andinterpret results in the patient record system. Distinguish betweennormal and abnormal test results.
