Job summary

The City of Richmond Department of Parks, Recreation, and Community Facilities is seeking a qualified Recreation Program Supervisor to oversee programming, scheduling, and processing of permits for city facilities and special events. This role reports to the Recreation Program Manager for Special Events/Permits and involves leading staff, planning events, and ensuring compliance with procedures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in parks and recreation, business or public administration.
  • Five years of professional recreational programming and parks or facilities management experience.
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience (as approved by the department) may be used to meet the minimum qualifications of the classification
  • Some assignments may require a background check, additional certifications and a valid Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record and a valid Commonwealth of Virginia Driver's License within 30 days of hire.
  • Assignments involving transportation may require a Commercial Driver's License.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic planning for Special Events and oversee permits.
  • Supervise staff assigned to operation and programming.
  • Conduct performance evaluations for staff, interns, temporary staff and volunteers.
  • Manage day-to-day operational activities of the scheduling division.
  • Lead operational supervision for designated events and programs.
  • Assist with creating reports and maintaining equipment.
  • Issuance of facility permits and updating standard operating procedures.
  • Work weekends and evening events.
  • Conduct site tours.
