Job summary

The City of Manassas is seeking a dynamic, energetic individual to join the Division of Parks, Culture and Recreation. The role engages visitors, leads programs and events, and supports marketing and partnerships to showcase city spirit.

This part-time position requires night and weekend work, with a schedule of 6 hours per day across 4 days per week. A background check and drug test will be conducted for the selected incumbent.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Two years of related experience in community service, event management, or recreational program administration.
  • Combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
  • Associate's Degree in Education, Parks and Recreation, Recreation Management or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Engage visitors at City-owned facilities and lead programs and events.
  • Assist with developing and distributing marketing materials and communications.
  • Recruit personnel, entertainers, instructors and volunteers.
  • Lead programs and events as directed by the Recreation Coordinator.
  • Retrieve, store, and inventory supplies and equipment.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

The City of Manassas is seeking a dynamic, energetic individual that enjoys interacting with people to join the Division of Parks, Culture and Recreation. The successful candidate will be responsible for engaging visitors at City-owned facilities. This position works to ensure the success of public and educational programs, and events offered throughout the City by creating unique and enjoyable experiences to highlight our city spirit and charm.

Position Details

This is a part-time position working 24 hours per week and requires night and weekend work as scheduled.

Schedule Note: Minimum of 4 days per week: 6 Hours per day up to 24hrs a week. Shifts: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and/or Saturday. This position will have two shifts during the week: First shift: 9:30am-3:30pm; Second shift: 2:30pm-8:30pm. The Saturday shift will be: 9:30am-4:30pm.

This position is open until filled and may close at any time.

Conducts public, recreational and athletic programs utilizing City equipment, supplies, and volunteers; maintains a comprehensive, current knowledge of the City, assists with program planning, preparing materials and equipment used in programs and events. Provides support to the Parks, Culture and Recreation Division staff by leading programs and events that may be held at parks or facilities located within the City.

Supports Parks, Culture and Recreation staff as needed in other programs and events; collaborates on program plans, entertainment schedules, private rentals and annual recreation calendars. Assists with special events related to concerts, entertainment, sport clinics, events that are held throughout the city, and monitoring participants attending programs.

Assists with developing, preparing and distributing marketing materials and related communications, identifies program opportunities involving community business and partnerships.

Assists with recruiting personnel, entertainers, instructors and volunteers for program delivery.

Leads programs and events at the discretion of the full-time Recreation Coordinator or their designee.

Retrieves, stores, maintains inventory and organizes supplies and equipment.

Performs related duties as assigned.

High School diploma or G.E.D.

Two years of related experience in community service, event management, or recreational program administration.

A combination of education, training, and experience, which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate's Degree in Education, Parks and Recreation, Recreation Management or related field.

Must have the ability to work independently and as part of a group; must exhibit strong communication skills, the ability to follow instructions and have a flexible schedule.
