Job summary

WestCare Georgia Inc. seeks a Peer Support Specialist to provide peer-based outreach, engagement, and resource navigation for veterans at risk for suicide. You will use lived experience and trauma-informed approaches to build trust and promote recovery.

Responsibilities include connecting veterans with behavioral health services, housing, benefits, and community resources; documenting contacts; and collaborating with case managers while maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards.

Qualifications

• Experience with veteran populations or suicide prevention preferred.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and accurately complete required documentation.
• Must be a veteran or service member with lived experience navigating recovery, mental health challenges, or transitional issues.

Responsibilities

• Engage veterans through peer-based outreach, relationship building, encouragement, and recovery-oriented support.
• Use lived experience to promote hope, self-advocacy, resilience, recovery, and participant engagement.
• Assist participants with identifying goals, strengths, supports, and barriers to care.
• Provide information, linkage, accompaniment, and navigation support related to behavioral health, housing, benefits, employment, wellness, and other resources.
• Maintain regular contact with assigned participants and support continued engagement with services.
• Collaborate with the Case Manager, Program Director, health care providers, veteran-serving organizations, and community partners for coordinated care.
• Recognize and report safety concerns and connect participants to crisis or clinical resources as needed.
• Document peer contacts, outreach, referrals, participant progress, and other required information accurately and timely.
• Participate in staff meetings, case conferences, supervision, training, outreach events, and quality improvement activities.
• Maintain high ethical standards and confidentiality; embrace the mission and goals of WestCare Foundation.
