Job summary

WestCare Foundation in Salem, OR is seeking a Peer Specialist to join our interdisciplinary team in a rehabilitation program serving Veterans.

You will support participants in articulating recovery goals, monitor progress, and model coping strategies based on your own recovery experience. The role emphasizes suicide prevention planning, outreach, and coordinating access to VA benefits and essential services.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience in counseling, therapy, or social work is strongly preferred.
• Experience with mental health and substance use disorders is required.
• High school diploma or equivalent is required; a bachelor’s degree is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide assessment, counseling, reintegration, and rehabilitation services to participants.
• Conduct case management and advocate for program participants to improve access to services.
• Complete documents in accordance with licensing, Medicaid, Joint Commission, and WestCare policies.
• Engage in community outreach to identify and enroll eligible Veterans and families.
• Develop, monitor, and document individualized suicide prevention plans with the team.
• Provide referrals to VA benefits and other health and social services as needed.
• Maintain daily contact with participants via calls, emails, and texts.
• Collaborate with Mental Health Counselors within the Zero Suicide framework.
