Job summary

Fort Bend County is seeking a Records Specialist to manage and transfer reports into databases, assist the public and law enforcement, and maintain filing systems and records security.

The role includes handling subpoenas, cash deposits, and Open Records requests, with participation in emergency management during disasters. A high school diploma and basic computer skills are required.

Responsibilities

  • Inputs and transfers reports into computer database and prepares records for scanning and archiving.
  • Responds to public and law enforcement at lobby window or by phone; directs to appropriate person.
  • Answers mail, fax, and NCIC/TCIC inquiries regarding reports and background checks.
  • Files and maintains filing system for official records; maintains security for records.
  • Maintains cash fund and prepares weekly cash deposits.
  • Prepares TLETS validations and computer merges.
  • Responds to subpoenas for court appearances and Open Records requests.
  • Participates in emergency management duties during local disasters.

Records Specialist
  • Inputs and transfers reports and supplements into computer database; Prepares records for scanning and archiving.
  • Assists and responds to public and other law enforcement personnel at lobby window or by telephone and/or directs to appropriate person.
  • Answers incoming mail, fax and NCIC/TCIC for inquiries on reports and background checks.
  • Files and maintains filing system for all official accident, case and jail records for the department; Maintains security for all records.
  • Maintains cash fund and prepares weekly cash deposits.
  • Prepares TLETS validations.
  • Prepares computer merges.
  • Prepares information requested in subpoenas for court appearances and information requested in Open Records Request.
  • Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.

Minimum Requirements

  • U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Six months job related experience
  • Good computer and typing skills.
  • Working knowledge of database software.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills along with bookkeeping and organizational skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees, and elected officials.
  • Ability to prioritize own work.
  • TCIC/NCIC Less than Full Access within first year of employment.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License

Salary Range: $20.00 per hour
