Job summary

Fort Bend County is seeking a Records Specialist to input and transfer reports into the database, prepare records for scanning, and assist the public and law enforcement at the lobby or by phone. The role includes filing, maintaining confidentiality, handling cash deposits, and responding to subpoenas and Open Records requests. A Nelson-Denny test is required during the process.

Salary: $20.50 per hour. Location: Richmond, Texas. Closing date: Upon filling position.

Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident.
  • High School Diploma/GED requirement.
  • Six months job related experience required.
  • Good computer and typing skills expected.
  • Working knowledge of database software required.
  • Good verbal and written communication and bookkeeping skills.
  • Ability to prioritize own work and interact with public and officials.
  • TCIC/NCIC access restrictions within first year.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License.

Responsibilities

  • Inputs and transfers reports into computer database; prepares records for scanning and archiving.
  • Assists public and law enforcement at lobby window or by phone; directs to appropriate person.
  • Answers mail, fax and NCIC/TCIC inquiries on reports and background checks.
  • Maintains filing system for all official records; ensures security of records.
  • Maintains cash fund and prepares weekly cash deposits.
  • Prepares TLETS validations and computer merges.
  • Responds to subpoenas for court appearances and Open Records requests.
  • Participates in emergency management duties during local disasters as directed.

Records Specialist


  • Inputs and transfers reports and supplements into computer database; Prepares records for scanning and archiving.

  • Assists and responds to public and other law enforcement personnel at lobby window or by telephone and/or directs to appropriate person.

  • Answers incoming mail, fax and NCIC/TCIC for inquiries on reports and background checks.

  • Files and maintains filing system for all official accident, case and jail records for the department; Maintains security for all records.

  • Maintains cash fund and prepares weekly cash deposits.

  • Prepares TLETS validations.

  • Prepares computer merges.

  • Prepares information requested in subpoenas for court appearances and information requested in Open Records Request.

  • Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.


Minimum Requirements


  • U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident

  • High School Diploma/GED

  • Six months job related experience

  • Good computer and typing skills.

  • Working knowledge of database software.

  • Good verbal and written communication skills along with bookkeeping and organizational skills.

  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to deal effectively with the public, other employees, and elected officials.

  • Ability to prioritize own work.

  • TCIC/NCIC Less than Full Access within first year of employment.

  • Valid Texas Driver's License
