Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) seeks a Dispatcher Worker to support real-time transmission operations. You will assist in switching orders, monitor SCADA, coordinate with the AEP SCC and nearby utilities, and help restore service during outages.

The role requires a two-year technical degree or equivalent, a state driver license, and the ability to work a twelve-hour rotating shift including nights, weekends, and holidays; travel and safety training may be required.

Qualifications

• Two-year technical degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field.
• High school diploma with 2 years experience operating a power system.
• 1-2 years experience in substation operation, protective relaying, or distribution dispatching is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the efficient operation of the transmission system with limited instruction.
• Coordinate operation with the AEP SCC, Distribution Dispatching Centers/Authorities, and Transmission Control Centers/Authorities.
• Arrange and direct routine and emergency switching/tagging for equipment removal/restoration.
• Receive, record, and maintain logs of operating conditions.
• Monitor voltages, loadings, and act with the AEP SCC to correct deviations.
• Monitor metering and communication facilities and fix malfunctions.
• Assist in real-time operation of the transmission system and distribution equipment.
• Prepare switching orders and safety tagging for maintenance activities.
• Direct switching operations under emergency conditions and help restore service.
