Job summary

AEP is seeking a System Operator Associate in New Albany, OH to support real-time transmission operations under supervision. You will help monitor voltages, power flows, and switching activities to keep the grid safe and reliable while coordinating with the AEP SCC and neighboring utilities.

The role requires a two-year technical degree or equivalent experience, a valid driver's license, and flexibility for a 12-hour rotating shift that includes nights, weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

• Entry-level candidates should have a two-year technical degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field, or high school plus 2 years of relevant experience.
• 1–2 years experience in substation operation or distribution dispatching is desirable.
• Must have a valid state driver license and complete required training/testing per company policy.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and regulate system voltage levels and real/reactive power flows.
• Assist in real-time operation of the transmission system with AEP SCC and neighboring utilities.
• Prepare basic switching orders and safety tagging for equipment removal from service for maintenance or construction.
• Direct switching operations under emergency conditions and coordinate restoration efforts.
• Maintain logs of events and transactions and monitor SCADA systems.
