Job summary

American Electric Power is seeking an entry-level to intermediate operator to support transmission operations. Under supervision, you will help ensure efficient transmission system operation, coordinate with Reliability Coordinators, and direct routine switching and tagging for maintenance or construction.

You will monitor system conditions, alarms, and metering, and assist in real-time operations with the AEP SCC and neighboring utilities.

Qualifications

Education: two-year technical degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or equivalent experience.
Alternative: High School diploma with 2 years in a role demonstrating power system operation.

Responsibilities

Assist Monitoring Analysis Response Center with data-driven next-step decisions around Asset Health Alarms.
Monitor System Health alarms and provide guidance to downstream stakeholders.
Monitor real-time compliance for PRC002, PRC004, and TPL007 and support stakeholders.
Monitor real-time fire monitoring apps and advise on next steps.
Notify stakeholders when alarm thresholds are reached concerning grid monitoring.
Assist in regulating system voltages and real/reactive power flows in coordination with the AEP SCC.
Support real-time operation of AEP transmission system in coordination with AEP SCC and neighboring utilities.
Assist in directing switching operations during emergencies and restore service safely.
Maintain logs of events and transactions for facilities and equipment.
Observe SCADA operations and report malfunctions for corrective action.
