Job summary

AEP New Albany, OH is seeking a System Operator Assistant to support the transmission system operations. Under supervision, you will assist in monitoring voltages, power flows, and equipment loadings, while coordinating with the AEP SCC and other centers.

You will prepare basic switching orders for maintenance, ensuring safety for the public and personnel. Responsibilities include logging events, supporting real-time operations, and guiding actions during emergencies.

Qualifications

• Two-year technical degree or equivalent experience in power systems.
• Valid state driver license.
• SO/PD test must be passed to qualify.
• Ability to work twelve-hour rotating shifts (nights, weekends, holidays).
• Willingness to travel and work in potentially hazardous environments.

Responsibilities

• Assist in monitoring and operating the transmission system in real time.
• Prepare switching orders and safety tagging for equipment removal or restoration.
• Monitor system voltages, power flows, and equipment loadings; apply corrective actions as needed.
• Maintain logs of events and transactions related to facility operation.
• Observe SCADA operations and report malfunctions for corrective action.
• Coordinate with Reliability Coordinator and neighboring utilities.
