Job summary

AEP Service Corporation in Corpus Christi, TX is seeking an entry-level Dispatch/Operator to assist in monitoring and regulating transmission system voltages and real/reactive power flows, coordinating with AEP SCC and neighboring utilities.

You will prepare switching orders for maintenance, assist in emergency switching, track events, and support SCADA and metering functions while working a twelve-hour rotating shift, with opportunities for growth.

Qualifications

• Two-year technical degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field or High School diploma with 2 years experience in power system operation.
• Valid state driver license.
• Ability to work a 12-hour rotating shift including nights, weekends and holidays.
• 1–2 years experience in substation operation, protective relaying, or distribution dispatching preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in monitoring and regulating system voltage levels, real and reactive power flows for the transmission system.
• Assist in real-time operation of the AEP transmission system in coordination with the AEP SCC and neighboring utilities.
• Assist in real-time operation of distribution equipment inside the station fence in coordination with regional dispatch centers.
• Prepare basic switching orders for removing equipment from service for maintenance, repair, or construction while ensuring safety.
• Assist in directing switching operations under emergency conditions and restore service quickly and safely.
• Maintain a log of events relative to facility operation.
• Observe and assist in operating the SCADA system and related functions.
• Monitor metering and communications facilities and report malfunctions.
• Monitor weather information system for severe weather and notify appropriate personnel.
• Acknowledge and input records of station entry/exit activity.
