Job summary

Amgen is seeking a Rare Disease Key Account Manager to reduce time to diagnosis and improve patient access by partnering with stakeholders across assigned health systems and clinics. You will diagnose barriers, unlock operational challenges, and lead strategies to grow the rare disease business while ensuring a reliable patient and customer experience.

You will coordinate cross-functional teams, manage contracting opportunities, and optimize buy-and-bill and site readiness.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively assess the business environment across assigned accounts to identify access, operational, economic, and care-delivery barriers affecting therapy utilization.
  • Develop and execute account plans aligned to customer priorities, including portfolio growth, patient access, site-of-care friction, and treatment continuity.
  • Build stakeholder maps and engage clinical leaders, administrators, pharmacy, finance, revenue cycle, procurement, infusion operations, and care coordinators.
  • Translate account data and insights into clear opportunity hypotheses, action plans, and performance reviews of sites.
  • Serve as the commercial lead for account contracting opportunities, coordinating internal approvals and supporting compliant negotiation and execution.
  • Identify and address barriers related to contracting, customer membership, ordering, distribution channel, formulary or pathway decisions.
  • Partner with market access, pricing, trade, reimbursement, and legal/compliance colleagues to support durable access solutions.
  • Support account business reviews that assess contract performance, patient access, operational readiness, and appropriate commercial opportunities.
  • Evaluate buy-and-bill workflows, including acquisition, inventory, verification, prior authorization, coding, billing, and financial risk points.
  • Engage sites of care through education, workflow support, and coordinated resources that strengthen readiness to initiate and maintain therapy.
  • Help customers diagnose and identify operational gaps delaying treatment, including referral handoffs, scheduling, infusion capacity, care coordination, and post-initiation follow-up.
  • Coordinate field execution with sales, medical, patient services, market access, trade, analytics, and brand partners.
  • Provide timely field insights into customer needs, reimbursement trends, and operational barriers.
  • Monitor account performance and adapt priorities to deliver against objectives in a compliant manner.
  • Maintain accurate account plans, affiliations, activity records, and opportunity documentation in required systems.
  • Lead matrix planning and follow-through for priority account initiatives with clear partner roles and timelines.
