Job summary

The City of Idaho Falls is seeking an Emergency Communications Officer in the Police Department. This civilian role handles 911 and non-emergency calls, dispatches police, fire, and EMS units, and supports a structured training program for Trainee or a lateral transfer for experienced applicants.

In the Trainee path, candidates with no prior emergency communications experience can begin their career after completing the training program.

Qualifications

• A Trainee applicant is an individual who may: Have no prior professional 911 or emergency dispatch experience; Are interested in starting a career in emergency communications; Are able to successfully complete a formal training program.

Responsibilities

• Receives and coordinates 911, police, fire, ambulance and other emergency requests; relays instructions to radio units; logs and types citizen complaints.
• Dispatches patrol cars and emergency vehicles; informs involved officers of call details and provides follow up information.
• Operates computer systems and maintains records/logs of communications activity; initiates alerts and coordinates emergency responses.
