Job summary

Kootenai County in North Idaho is seeking an Emergency Communications Officer to answer emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatch police, fire, and EMS, and provide life-saving instructions over the phone.

No prior dispatch experience is required; extensive training and certification opportunities are provided, including CPR, Idaho POST Basic Dispatch Academy, ILETS, and emergency alert systems. The position offers paid training and advancement.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• At least three months of work experience.
• Valid driver's license or ability to obtain one.
• Be insurable.
• Keyboarding proficiency of 3,321 keystrokes per hour.

Responsibilities

• Answer emergency and non-emergency calls for service.
• Dispatch law enforcement, fire, EMS, and other emergency resources.
• Assess situations and prioritize responses.
• Provide CPR and emergency medical instructions over the phone.
• Monitor responder status and officer safety.
• Operate computer-aided dispatch systems and multiple databases.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation.
