Job summary

Tectonic Engineering in Forest Hills, NY is seeking an experienced Safety Manager for rail transit projects (NYC Transit, Metro North, LIRR, Staten Island Railway, NJ Transit, Amtrak). This full-time, on-site role leads safety programs and ensures compliance with OSHA, FRA and project procedures.

Responsibilities include reviewing hazard analyses, performing safety audits, site walkthroughs with Owner and Contractor, leading toolbox talks, and coordinating safety trainings with project teams.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 8 years of experience on rail transit projects with knowledge of OSHA/FRA standards.
• Demonstrated safety management or supervisory experience on rail transit projects is preferred.
• HS Diploma or equivalent; BS degree in Engineering or related field strongly preferred.
• CHST certification preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret written specifications, plans, and construction documents.
• Strong communication skills with clients, supervisors, and inspectors.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to job sites.

Responsibilities

• Review job-hazard analyses and safe work plan submittals for compliance with project procedures and specifications.
• Collaborate with Project Managers, Resident Engineers, and other Safety Managers on safety monitoring and audits.
• Perform site walk-throughs with Owner and Contractor to ensure compliance with safety procedures.
• Attend daily toolbox talks and safety stand-downs; provide input as needed.
• Create and maintain a project-specific safety audit schedule and perform audits.
• Issue corrective actions and monitor compliance; identify areas for improvement.
• Support safety training and awareness activities to drive continuous improvement.
• Attend and chair project safety meetings and assist with project management as needed.
• Perform all related duties as assigned.
