Norfolk Southern invites applications for an Electrical Apprentice Signal Trainee in the Lafayette, IN area. This field-based, 52-week program blends classroom and hands-on instruction to prepare you for a Signal Maintainer role through extensive training and on-the-job experience.

Qualified candidates must have a HS diploma or GED, a valid driver's license, and must obtain a Class A CDL within 90 days. You may be required to relocate if selected for positions beyond training, and you will join

Qualifications

• Must be 18+ with HS diploma or GED and valid driver's license.
• Must obtain Class A CDL within 90 days and pass FRA drug/alcohol screening.
• Legally authorized to work in the U.S. and able to travel up to 75%.
• Must pass pre-employment FRA medical exam and avoid disqualifying convictions.

Responsibilities

• Perform FRA-required inspections and testing of signal systems and grade crossings.
• Install, maintain, and repair signal equipment including lights and interlock devices.
• Manage crossing warning devices and cab signal systems.
• Support Positive Train Control (PTC) systems and read electrical schematics.
• Operate testing tools and heavy equipment; document all work performed.
• Work on-call and weekends as required; travel across districts during training.
