Job summary

Norfolk Southern Corp. is seeking an Electrical Apprentice Signal Trainee (Argos, IN) to join a seniority-based union team.

The program includes a 52-week training cycle with classroom and field instruction, and successful completion places you on the seniority roster for bid-based Signal Maintainer roles. Training occurs at NS facilities with student accommodations; you must obtain a Class A CDL within 90 days and be ready to travel up to 75% during training.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older and legally authorized to work in the U.S.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver’s license with reliable transportation.
• Must obtain Class A CDL within 90 days of hire (training provided).
• Must pass FRA drug and alcohol screening pre-employment.
• No motor-vehicle-related license suspensions within the last 36 months.
• Relocation may be required based on bid results; relocation assistance is not provided.

Responsibilities

• Perform FRA-required inspections and testing of signal systems and grade crossings.
• Install, maintain, and repair signal equipment including lights, switch machines, and locks.
• Work with crossing warning devices and interlocking systems.
• Support Positive Train Control and cab signal systems.
• Read electrical schematics and technical diagrams; use electrical testing tools.
• Document inspections and repairs accurately; work outdoors in varying weather.
• Respond to on-call assignments, including nights and weekends.
