Job summary

Canadian Pacific Railway is seeking an Assistant Superintendent to oversee traffic movement within the road territory and yard-terminal operations, ensuring safety and efficiency.

You will lead Trainmasters, Assistant Trainmasters, and union workforce, developing plans, supervising crews, and driving performance while maintaining compliance with GCOR and company policies. This is a safety-critical leadership role requiring flexibility and strong communication across teams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of railway experience, qualified Conductor or Locomotive Engineer preferred.
• Valid driver's license.
• Valid U.S. passport or ability to obtain one; allowing entry to Canada and Mexico.
• Must be or become GCOR rules qualified.
• Knowledge of investigations and root cause analysis.
• Ability to communicate effectively across all levels and through multiple channels.
• Willingness to be available 24/7 as required for operational leadership needs.

Responsibilities

• Supervise operating crews, yardmasters, support staff, and management to execute the Operating Plan safely.
• Drive the operating plan in a safe and efficient manner.
• Deliver results against performance and financial metrics through asset utilization.
• Participate in safety and business plan rollouts across the region.
• Mentor the team and develop career succession opportunities.
• Ensure compliance with collective bargaining agreements and policies; support Labor Relations as needed.
• Align with regulatory agencies and maintain positive working relationships.
• Conduct safety tests, training, and investigations; address safety and environmental incidents as needed.
