Job summary

CPKC, North America's first transnational railroad, in Illinois, seeks an Assistant Superintendent to lead traffic within road territory and yard-terminal operations. You will guide daily plans with Trainmasters and a union workforce to drive premium safety and efficiency.

Responsibilities include supervising crews, ensuring plan execution, and coordinating with labor relations while maintaining regulatory compliance. A strong path for development exists within this large, multinational network.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of railway experience; conductor or locomotive engineer preferred.
• Valid driver's license.
• Valid U.S. passport or ability to obtain one; enabling entry to Canada and Mexico.
• Must be or become GCOR rules qualified.
• Strong communication across levels and channels, including written and verbal.
• Willingness to be available 24/7 for operational leadership needs.

Responsibilities

• Lead the safe and tactical execution of the Operating Plan through supervision of train crews, yardmasters, and support staff.
• Drive the operating plan in a safe and efficient manner.
• Deliver results against performance and financial metrics via asset utilization.
• Assist with safety and business plan rollouts across the region.
• Mentor the team and develop career paths for succession.
• Ensure cost control through efficient business support functions.
• Ensure compliance with collective bargaining agreements and CPKC policies.
• Align with regulatory agencies and maintain positive working relationships.
• Participate in safety tests, training rides, and investigations as needed.
