Job summary

HDR Rail is offering a rail engineering pathway for Engineer-in-Training candidates, with opportunities across rail disciplines and mentorship from industry professionals. The role targets candidates pursuing licensure and FE exam success, with internships or field experience in engineering and infrastructure.

You will gain exposure to projects serving Class I to regional railroads and various facilities, with opportunities in design, fieldwork, and data analytics.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field.
• EIT certification or pursuing licensure.
• Completion of or plans to take the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam.
• Internship/co‑op/field experience in engineering, transportation, construction or infrastructure.
• Experience with design software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, OpenRoads, MicroStation, Revit or GIS.

Responsibilities

• Support the planning, design, construction and delivery of rail infrastructure projects.
• Assist with technical deliverables, including calculations, drawings, specifications, reports, exhibits and cost estimates.
• Contribute to projects involving track, facilities, structures, civil infrastructure and environmental services.
• Participate in site visits, field assessments and project walkthroughs.
• Utilize engineering, design and analytical tools to support project development and delivery.
• Research and apply applicable codes, standards and client requirements.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across engineering, environmental, advisory, technology and construction disciplines.
• Work with experienced engineers and mentors to develop technical and professional skills.
• Travel periodically for project meetings and field activities.
