Job summary

HDR is seeking an Engineering in Training (EIT) to join our Rail team. This position offers exposure to design, inspection and project delivery for Class I, short line and regional railroads across multiple US locations.

You will work with experienced engineers on track, facilities, environmental services and advisory projects, gaining hands‑on experience from design through field deployment while growing your professional credentials.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate or plans to pursue licensure.
• Basic knowledge of MicroStation and/or AutoCAD.
• MS Office applications experience.
• Strong interest in railroad design.
• Active participation in employee-owned culture a must.

Responsibilities

• Support the planning, design, construction and delivery of rail infrastructure projects.
• Assist with technical deliverables including calculations, drawings, specifications, reports, exhibits and cost estimates.
• Contribute to projects involving track, facilities, civil infrastructure, environmental services, construction field services and advisory support.
• Participate in site visits, field assessments and project walkthroughs.
• Utilize engineering, design and analytical tools to support project development and delivery.
• Research and apply applicable codes, standards, regulations and client requirements.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across engineering, environmental, advisory, technology and construction disciplines.
• Work with experienced engineers, project managers and technical specialists to develop skills.
• Travel periodically for project meetings and field assignments.
